Karina Sungkono

Karina is an Indonesian advocate with over a decade of legal experience. Her practice focuses on the energy, natural resources and infrastructure sectors, including power, renewables, mining, water and transportation.

She has represented major clients in some of Indonesia’s landmark infrastructure projects, such as the country’s first high-speed railway project, new-generation geothermal projects, and most of Indonesia’s wind and grid-connected solar projects to date.

Karina has extensive experience in all stages of energy and infrastructure projects, from the early development and procurement phases to construction, project financing and post-commercial operation. She is skilled in drafting and negotiating projects and finance documents, including power purchase agreements of all technologies, concession agreements, EPC contracts, O&M contracts, loan agreements and Indonesian law security documents. She also has substantial experience in M&A and restructuring in the energy sector.  

Karina was formerly a senior associate at Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners (the Indonesian member firm of Baker & McKenzie), where she also served as a member of the Senior Associates Steering Committee of Projects Group at Baker & McKenzie (global).

Before joining Santoso, Martinus & Muliawan Advocates, she held the position of head of corporate legal at a leading e-commerce enabler in Indonesia, overseeing the company’s M&A and fundraising deals.  

In 2020, Karina was recognized as “Rising Star of the Year” in the Asia Pacific region by the International Financial Law Review (IFLR) and was also named one of Indonesia’s NeXGen Lawyers by Hukumonline.
